Who has tried Blue Buffalo Wilderness cat food?
I’m currently feeding Natural Balance Green Pea and Chicken grain free recipe mixed with Earthborn Holistic Primitive Feline (got it on sale, but cat doesn’t seem to like it as much, so I mix a little in with the Natural Balance). Since it is no longer as cost effective as used to be for me to get the Natural Balance, I was wondering if I should switch over to Blue Buffalo once the food she’s currently eating runs out (yes I know you don’t switch immediately and I’ll do the whole mixing thing). I heard lots of good reviews about Blue Buffalo Wilderness and was wondering if its worth the money. I’d go with the chicken recipe and I want to go with Wilderness only (as opposed to other Blue varieties) since I want grain-free. She’s a colorpoint shorthair at 8 months old and has never coughed up a hairball.
I’m talking about dry food, by the way. She gets wet food from time to time, but I prefer to go with dry because she doesn’t like wet food very much anymore.
Both my cats and ferrets (since they too are obligate carnivores) eat Blue Buffalo Wilderness and have been for a few years now. Excellent food! It’s 40% meat protein and grain free. Everyone has the most amazingly silky coats. My black domestic shorthair who used to be very dandruffy now looks like a sleek panther. All the cats are of perfect weight, too. I leave the food out 24/7 and still not one of them is even the slightest bit overweight since it doesn’t have all the fillers of the crappy foods.
Tip for you – buy it at PetSmart. Always cheaper there than Petco and often goes on sale. The regular price at PetSmart for the 12lb bag is $34.99 and I’ve bought it for as little as $31.99 there. Petco, meanwhile, charges $40.69! Buy one of the airtight containers so you can save money buy buying the bigger bag. The big bag at PetSmart’s price amounts to about $2.91 per pound while the smaller one costs about 50 cents more per pound.
You should feed canned daily as well, though. Mine split a cat of Tiki Cat or Simply Nourish every evening. Here’s an article about the importance of canned food http://www.littlebigcat.com/health/why-cats-need-canned-food-2/ My cats are pretty picky about what canned foods they like but they DEVOUR these two brands.
